Frequently Asked Questions

Weather and Season

If we determine that it’s unsafe to fly, your original flight will be cancelled. We’ll try to make this decision at least two days before your booking. You can either rebook for another date or receive a full refund.

We need light winds and sunny conditions for both launch and landing to safely fly paragliders.

While it might be possible to fly, the weather becomes too unpredictable in winter. We are closed from May until the end of August.

Who is allowed to fly in a tandem paraglider?

No, no previous experience is needed.

Your qualified pilot will give you detailed instructions before and during your tandem flight.

You need to be at least 10 years old. There’s no maximum age, but passengers must be physically fit enough to run a few steps during takeoff.

Yes, the maximum weight is 100kg.

Yes, we usually have multiple pilots available. Please note that each pilot flies with only one passenger.

Time and Duration

Depending on the weather and availability, we recommend booking your flight a few days to weeks in advance. If you’re coming to Bright, it’s best to book your paragliding tandem flight at the start of your holiday, so we can reschedule if the weather isn’t good.

Please arrive 10 minutes before your booking time. This gives us time to go over the paperwork and make sure we don’t miss the perfect time to fly.

The actual flight time depends on the type of flight you choose, so the entire experience will be between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours.

Meeting point and spectators

The Bright Flight Paragliding Team will meet you at 179-189 Morses Creek Rd, Bright VIC 3741, just before your flight time. If we’re running late (due to weather conditions on the previous flight), we’ll let you know. This address is our Landing Paddock, so please look for our Bright Flight signs just past the big windsock!

Please note, the path is often used by cyclists, so be sure to step off the path to let them pass safely.

The landing paddock (the meeting place) is the best spot for your friends and family to watch you fly. We’ll tell them the colour of your tandem before we head up the hill.

Unfortunately, the road to the launch site is no longer open to the public.

Clothing, Equipment and Photos

You’ll need sturdy shoes and a light long-sleeve shirt. In spring and autumn, the weather can get cold, so bring a windproof jacket and a sweater. We’ll tell you on the day how many layers you should wear.

Yes, you’ll wear a helmet during your flight, so your sunglasses will stay on your face safely.

Yes, we’ll film your launch and take some photos before the flight. During the flight, you can use your phone to take your own photos and videos with one of our selfie sticks. They’re strapped in, so you won’t lose your phone.

Safety

Paragliding is an adventure sport, and like any activity, it carries certain risks. However, the Bright Flight Paragliding Team has an excellent safety record and will do everything possible to keep you safe. You will need to sign a waiver before your flight.

Yes, you’ll need to sign a SAFA (Sports Aviation Federation of Australia) waiver before your tandem flight. The waiver is a liability release document. In order to fly you must agree to the conditions of the waiver.

Most people don’t feel afraid of heights during a paragliding tandem. This might be because you’re looking outwards instead of down, or because you’re not standing on solid ground, so the feeling is different.

Accessibility

We’re happy to accommodate you as much as possible. Please let us know about any specific needs or limitations before your flight, and we’ll work with you to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
